Took a trip recently through some Peoria area grave yards- why are the old stones, so much more charming then the newer stones? The pictures the fonts, all of it- so so lovely....
Mexican culture sends families into the graveyards to celebrate and remember the ones that have passed. The literally fill their cars with family, friends, foods and candles and head to their families grave markers for a party...
Exploring old grave yards has been something I have loved to do, since I was a kid. I grew up near a grave yard (learned to ride my bike there in fact - One of the only places my dad would let me ride my bike- because as he liked to say- there are no cars to hit you and you can ride the streets of a grave yard all day long- and get good at riding your bike safest place around- because nobody is ever there== indeed dad!)
I encourage you to find and explore an old lost cemetery. The one I was in above- is on highway 116 on the Peoria side of Farmington. But you can find these little lost and beautiful gems everywhere. Take the kids. Bring their bikes... :)
